Gerard A. Hawkey, 65, formerly from Bethlehem, Freemansburg and Whitehall, died on Feb. 7, 2016, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Bethlehem.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Franklin and Dorothy (Picket) Hawkey Sr.

He was a respiratory therapist for Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, for 15 years before retiring in 2000.

A 1968 graduate of Liberty High School, he served his country faithfully and honorably with the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman during the Vienam War.

His survivors include his daughter, Meghan R., wife of Pastor Michael Smith of Whitehall; brothers, Franklin Jr. of Catasauqua, Barry of Scranton; and grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Linus Smith.

He was predeceased by a sister Patricia Hicks.

His services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
