Ernest V. Geiger

Ernest V. Geiger, 89, of Schnecksville, died Feb. 22, 2016 in his home.

He and his wife Jean I. (Handwerk) Geiger were married 69 years last Dec. 21.

Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Schnecksville, he was the son of the late Victor C. and Lillie G. (Kohler) Geiger.

A lifelong potato farmer, he farmed in Stony Run, Berks County, from 1946-59 and in Schnecksville since 1959.

He was a bus driver in the Parkland School District for 26 years before retiring.

A member of the Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, he formerly served on the church council and as treasurer of the former Union Sunday School.

He formerly served as treasurer and board member of the Lehigh Valley Potato Growers Association and was a former member of Schnecksville Grange 1684.

He also was former treasurer of the Geiger Reunion.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children Cynthia L. Hertzog and husband Larry of Walnutport, Sandra L. Mosser and husband Charles III of Schnecksville, David E. Geiger and Debra of Schnecksville, Mary J. Walck and husband John of Florida, Debra J. Haldaman and husband James of Walnutport, Timothy F. Geiger and Deborah of Schnecksville, Daryl V. Geiger and Denise of Schnecksville; sisters Anna Breininger and Gerald of Wernersville, Grace Sell and Hubert of Schnecksville, Diane Scherer and Frederick of Slatington, Joyce Burda of Whitehall; sister-in-law Patricia Geiger of Lehighton; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Herbert and Victor, and a granddaughter Sally Haldaman.

His funeral services will be 10:30 am. Feb. 27 at Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Dennis W. Moore officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 6-8 p.m. Friday in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
