Borough property owners have now received their 2016 garbage bill in the mail. Noting there was no increase in the billing from 2015, residents have until March 31 to receive a 10-percent discount.

Payment on the flat fee is April 1 through May 31. Beginning June 1, a 10-percent penalty will be added to the bill.

The rate for seniors is $207 during the discount period, $230 if paid in the flat-fee period and $253 during the penalty phase.

Jeffry Deutsch, tax collector, reports residents have two options to pay, either by mail or at his 104 S. Seventh St. office, 5-7 p.m. or by appointment Wednesday through Friday.

Real estate tax bills will be sent out March 1. There has been no increase in refuse or property taxes for 2016.

There are 1,400 property owners in the borough.

The borough’s road salt stockpile is ample, taking into account the Jan. 23 Winter Storm Jonas, providing 30-plus inches of snow.

Public works Director Paul Boyle reports approximately 70 tons of nonskid material is available. As of last week, 24 tons were used to keep the streets safe and clear of ice and snow.

At times, public works crews mix road salt with a small amount of cinders.

Although three years away, the borough wants to get an early jump on planning for the town’s 150th anniversary in 2019.

A committee is forming. Residents interested in serving on the committee are invited to call the borough office at 610-262-6088.
