Whitehall girls win four recent meets

Here’s a look at some recent Whitehall swim meets as the team heads into districts March 4-5. The girls finished 13-3 on the season while the boys were 7-9.

The team split a meet with Southern Lehigh, the girls winning 112-58 while the boys fell 124-45.

For the girls, Steph Setar was a double winner taking the 200 IM and the 100 back with times of 2:19.54 and 1:02.65, respectively. Other winners for the girls were Grace Sullivan (200 free, 2:11.03), Mairead Doyle (50 free, 25.98), Alexus Merkert (100 butterfly, 1:05.32), Michaela Hendricks (500 free, 6:01.77) and Autumn Kidulic (100 breast, 1:18.61).

The 200 medley relay team won with a time of 2:01.45 and was made up of Setar, Doyle, Martha Giletto and Hope Millets. Kallie Lyle, Alex Dorner, Sullivan and Setar made up the 400 free relay team which won with a time of 4:08.79.

For the boys, Michael Haggerty was the lone winner, taking the 100 free in 55.11.

Against Moravian Academy, the Zephs won both meets. The girls won 103-67 while the boys took a 102-66 contest.

Setar was another double-winner in this meet, again winning the 200 IM and the 100 back. Her times were 2:19.90 and 1:03.02.

Sullivan won the 200 free in 2:12.03, Dorner won the 100 free in 1:01.06 and Hendricks the 500 free in 6:03.52.

All three relay teams won for the girls: the 200 medley in 1:59.33 (Setar, Doyle, Merkert, Millets), the 200 free in 1:47.96 (Sullivan, Giletto, Doyle, Merkert), the 400 free in 4:03.39 (Giletto, Millets, Dorner, Setar).

The boys were led by Haggerty, Dan Jablonski and Jordan Rivera who all won two individual events. Haggerty took the 200 free in 1:56.44 and the 500 free in 5:15.48 while Rivera won the 200 IM in 2:21.45 and the 100 breast in 1:08.18. Jablonski took the 50 free in 24.33 as well as the 100 free in 53.08.

Felix Figueroa won the 100 fly in 1:00.06.

All three relay teams won: the 200 medley had a time of 1:51.29 (Jablonski, Rivera, Figueroa, Ziyad Khafagy), the 200 free in 1:45.24 (Hisham Hamada, Jack Yadush, Nathaniel Dolan, Haggerty) and the 400 free in 3:48.94 (Hamada, Haggerty, Jablonski, Rivera).

Whitehall split with Freedom, the girls winning 117-53 while the boys fell 102-62.

The girls had six different individuals take firsts: Kidulic in the 200 IM (no time), Doyle in the 50 free (no time), Merkert in the 100 fly in 1:04.13, Sullivan in the 100 free in 59.15, Setar in the 50 free in 5:33.75 and Dorner in the 100 back in 1:09.30.

Again, all three relay teams took firsts for the girls: the 200 medley (Dorner, Doyle, Setar, Sullivan) in 2:01.28, the 200 free (Millets, Setar, Sullivan, Doyle) in 1:49.99 and the 400 free (Setar, Dorner, Merkert, Madison Lyle) in 4:11.82.

For the boys, they had four individual winners in the loss. Rivera won the 50 free (no time), Figueroa the butterfly in 59.03, Khafagy the 100 free in 56.75 and Haggerty in the 500 free in 56.75.

Freedom won all three boys relay events.

Whitehall split a meet with Central, with the girls winning 120-45 and the boys falling 91-77.

In the boys meet, the 200 medley team of Jablonski, Rivera, Figueroa and Khafagy set a new Whitehall record with a time of 1:48.61, despite finishing behind the Vikings team who had a winning time of 1:46.08.

The girls were led by Hendricks’ two victories on the day, one coming in the 200 IM in 2:32.83 and the other in the 500 free in 6:01.17. Other winners for the girls were Kallie Lyle in the 200 free in 2:16.49, Doyle in the 50 free in 26.69, Setar in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.19 and Merkert in the 100 free in 1:00.30.

All three relay teams won against Central. Setar, Doyle, Merkert and Sullivan made up the 200 medley team which had a time of 2:00.50; Giletto, Doyle, Sullivan and Setar made up the 200 free team which had a time of 1:48.98; and Giletto, Sullivan, Setar and Dorner made up the 400 free team which had a time of 4:07.09.

The boys, meanwhile, were led by Haggerty, Rivera and Jablonski who all won two races. Haggerty took the 200 free in 1:55.75 and the 500 free in 5:12.22 while Jablonski won the 200 IM in 2:12.34 and the 100 free in 54.78. Rivera was first in the 50 free in 23.99 and the 100 breast in 1:06.42. Jack Yadush also won an event coming in first in the 100 back in 1:05.88.

Rivera, Figueroa, Khafagy and Jablonski won the 400 free relay in 3:40.78.
