LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Mini-THON successful

Bethlehem Catholic starts strong as the second semester arrives closer than anticipated.

“Twelfth Night” became a success, as it was BECA’s first Shakespearean production. Leading actors and actresses include: Kylee Shivok, Joe Winger, Jamie Wher and James Richie.

Catholic Schools week, an event filled with activities like dance battles and class basketball games, arrived right after midterms. Teachers and students each day take time to appreciate everything from parents to the spiritual guidance we have at BECA. Some of the students’ favorite events are the lip sync battle, dance battle, and teacher vs. seniors basketball game. During that week, alumnus and retired Eagles player John Spagnola paid his old high school a visit to give BECA a Super Bowl trophy. By the end of the week, students at BECA collected over 2,500 cans of food for Catholic Charities.

Following an already exciting week, the wrestling team won the District IX-AAA title. Also, BECA hosted its sixth Mini-THON, a dance marathon raising money for the Four Diamonds pediatric cancer organization. For 12 hours with consistent dancing and six months of prior student planning, the students were able to raise over $50,000. Throughout the night, students participate in different events like carnival hour, glow hour and beach hour. Even as it got tiring and painful, students knew it was “for the kids” and kept their spirits and energy high. Students “dance today so the kids have tomorrow”.

An extremely exciting start to the second semester, students are both thrilled and excited for the more adventures to come at BECA. BECA students are capable of doing so much in a short few days to almost six months. In BECA, we take pride in everything we do, whether it is for the kids, for the charities or for the students.
