Sydney “Syd” R. Eltringham Jr., 79, of Bethlehem, died Feb.12, 2016, at Westminster Village, Allentown. Born in Danville, he was a son of the late Sydney R. Eltringham Sr. and Mildred (Dapra) Eltringham. He was the husband of Julia (Krebs) Eltringham for 56 years.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from King’s College, a master’s degree from Temple University and a doctorate in education from Lehigh University.
He taught at Northampton Community College, where he founded the Vietnam Veteran’s Club, and in the East Stroudsburg and Trenton Area School Districts. He owned the BDA Security Agency.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem.
He was a high school and college soccer referee. He was inducted into the Coal Township High School Football Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Bethlehem Rotary Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, David and his wife Susan of Loveland, Ohio; John and his wife MaryBeth of Bethlehem Township and Sydney III and his wife Donna of Dublin, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Anna, Lauren, John, Megan, Tyler and Alexandra Eltringham; and four siblings, Florence Hallman of Lancaster, Richard and his wife Joan Eltringham of Shamokin, Linda and her husband Richard LeBoon of Lancaster and Martin and his wife Susan Eltringham of Shamokin.
He was predeceased by four siblings, Robert, Charles, Louis and Edith Eltringham.
