Josephine A. Wieand, 87, of Macungie, died Feb. 2, 2016, in Sacred Heart Assisted Living, Center Valley. She was the wife of the late Frederick J. “Fritz” Wieand Sr. Born in Beersville, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Rose (Petko) Becker.

She was a nurse in the Well Baby Clinic in the Canal Zone in Panama. Prior to that she was a school nurse in Caracas, Venezuela and San Jose, Costa Rica and was a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. She was a 1949 graduate of the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing.

She is survived by sons, Frederick J. “Rick” Jr. and his wife Martha L., of Macungie and Mark C. and his fiance Rosemarie Certo, of Philadelphia; sisters, Dorothy Hess, of Newport News, Va. and Kathleen and her husband Dennis Petrie, of Kutztown; sisters-in-law, Mary Becker, of Georgetown, Texas and Stella Becker, of Stroudsburg; grandchildren, Heidi and her husband Richard Hillman, of Damascus, Md., Jonathan, of Macungie and Madeleine, of New Orleans, La.; great-grandchildren, Avery and Garrett Hillman; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Stanley and Richard.
