William A. Shafer III
William A. Shafer III, 71, of Heidelberg Township, died Jan. 28, 2016, in his home.
He was the husband of Ruth A. (Laudenslager) Shafer.
Born Sept. 4, 1944, in North Catasauqua, he was a son of the late William A., Jr. and Hilda J.(Reinhard) Shafer.
He served his country faithfully with the U.S. Army Combat Engineers during the Vietnam War.
A truck driver for Lombard Bros., Ashland Chemical and Georgia Pacific, he most recently was an associate at Home Depot, Lehigh Street, Allentown.
He was a member of New Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Tripoli, the National H.O.G and the Deer Lake H.O.G. Chapter 4495.
In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, he is survived by sons William A., IV of Schnecksville and Mark A. Sr. and Jennifer of Germansville; sisters Mary Jane Burkert and Kenny of Fleetwood and Barbara A. Schlegel and Eugene of Catasauqua; brothers Charles E. and Rita of Allentown and Arlan R. and Sherry of Coplay; grandchildren Nikki, Mark Jr. and Payton; great-grandchildren Spencer and Lilli; several nieces and nephews.
His funeral services will be 10 a.m. Feb. 5, at the church, 6804 Weiss Road, New Tripoli, with Dr. David Fallinger officiating.
Family and friends may call 6-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, at Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, and 9:30-10 a.m. Feb. 5 at the church.
Interment with military honors will conclude services at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
