M. Erol Ulucakli, 78, of Bethlehem, died Jan. 20, 2016, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y. Born in Izmir, Turkey, he was a son of the late Ali and Omriye (Cinar) Ulucakli.He was the husband of the late Aysel Ulucakli.
He was a graduate of Istanbul Technical University and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
He was a professor of mechanical engineering at Lafayette College for 27 years, until he retired in 2015 as an associate professor emeritus.
He was a member and former trustee and president of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Lehigh Valley.
He was a member and former president of the Lehigh Valley chapter, American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
He is survived by a daughter Ebru U. Provost; a son-in-law, Thomas; a grandson, Benjamin Erol of Binghamton, N.Y.; his companion, Barbara Forry of Bethlehem; two brothers, Ozden and his wife Mine Ulucakli and Onder and his wife Gulseren Ulucakli; a nephew, Ali and his wife Yesim and their daughter Defne Ulucakli; two nieces, Basak and Burcu and her husband Gultekin and daughter Derin Tufanoglu; and uncles, aunts, and cousins, all in Turkey.
