Danette R. Peters

Chief Master Sergeant Danette “Dani” R. Peters, U.S.A.F. (Retired), 58, of Shavertown, died Jan. 21, 2016. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Warren George Harding Peters and Nadine R. (Trexler) Peters of Catasauqua.

She was a 1975 graduate of Catasauqua High School, Catasauqua.

She enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1981 as a Russian linguist and later became a computer programmer.

She worked on various tactical, intelligence, space, and weather computer systems for several major U.S.A.F. commands and a field operating agency in the U.S. and overseas. She was a First Sergeant for seven years and deployed to Kuwait in 2003. She retired in March 2011 after more than 30 years of service.

She was awarded the Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Achievement Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border (Unit Award). She was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Georgette Peters of Gainesville, Fla.; three brothers, Jeffrey and his wife Sandi Peters of Houston, Texas; and Timothy and his wife Diane Peters and Gregory and his wife Debra Peters, all of Bethlehem; nieces; and nephews.

Private services will be held at a later date.
