Phoebe A. Dellicker

Phoebe A. Dellicker, 93, of Kutztown, formerly of Jacksonville and Topton, died Jan. 17, 2016, in the home of her daughter, Lise P. Hertzog.

Born in Bowers, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Minnie A. (Lichtenwalner) Grim.

She graduated from Kutztown Area High School in 1940.

After one year at Kutztown College, she entered St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Reading.

She graduated in 1944 as a registered nurse and married Willard C. Dellicker while he was home on leave during WWII.

He died May 12, 1987.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton, she taught Sunday School and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.

She worked as a private duty nurse and was one of the first nurses in the infirmary at The Lutheran Home at Topton.

She also volunteered at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, for 19 years, and worked as a clerk at the former Mertz’s Jewelry Store, Topton, and as a seamstress and clerk at the former Village Dress Shop, Schnecksville.

She and her husband were instrumental in the founding of the Veterans Memorial Committee and oversaw fundraising and construction of the VMC swimming pool in Topton, where she also ran the concession stand as a volunteer for seven years.

She also received the Pennsylvania National Guard Distinguished Service Medal Award for 43 consecutive years until the year 2000.

She was a member of various local civic organizations in the Kutztown and Topton communities.

Her survivors include daughters, Lise P., wife of Joseph L. Hertzog of Wyomissing and with whom she resided, and Tana L., wife of Glenn C. Fegely, of Russell, Warren County; sons Willard G., husband of Trudie L. (Klein) Dellicker of New Tripoli, and Daniel G., husband of Sandra L. (Manmiller) Dellicker, Summit Hill, Carbon County; sister Donna R. (Grim), husband of Herbert Lantz of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by brothers, William and John.
