Coplay: Baseball, softball sign-ups begin Jan. 23

Coplay Sports Inc. will be holding boys and girls registration for the upcoming baseball and softball season at the Coplay Sports fieldhouse, located on Potter Terrace between Sixth and Seventh streets, on the following days:

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 23

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 30

• 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 3

• 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 10

Visit coplaysports.org for a registration form and information about the program.

The child’s birth certificate and proof of health insurance are needed for registration.

Coplay Community Days Committee meets 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in borough council chambers to start the planning for August’s bash.

The public is invited as are groups participating in the weekend event at the borough parkway.

A cash bingo will take place at Commitment to Family & Community, 165 Cherry St., 2 p.m. Feb. 7. Doors open 1 p.m.

There also will be a raffle and food available for purchase. Tickets are $5 cheaper in advance.

All proceeds benefit Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative. You are asked to bring a canned food item.

The sudden resignation of Coplay Mayor Joseph Bundra, who had two years remaining on a four-year term in office, has caused a buzz in the town.

No one has submitted his or her name for the vacant post. While the stipend for mayor is little, the person holding the post puts the community ahead of personal gain.
