Black History Month events
All events will be held in the college center on the main campus:
Preserving the Dream: Photographs of the King Family by Thomas J. Shillea, NCC director of art programs, at NCC, will show and discuss his photographic portraits of Coretta Scott King and his informal photographs of King and her son Dexter King at 11 a.m. Jan. 21 in room 220.
The State of Racism/White Supremacy in a Post-Civil Rights Era with speaker Kamau Kenyatta, NCC adjunct professor of history, at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 in room 220.
Voices of Black History: a student panel will discuss important people and events in black history at 11 a.m. Feb. 18 in room 146.
There will be a book discussion about “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” on Feb. 23 in the library conference room.
A student debate with the topic “Should most drugs now be legalized, given that the war on drugs has failed and resulted in mass incarcerations in the black community” is set for 11 a.m. Feb. 25 in room 220. Lehigh University
Bradley this yar’ Kenner speaker Feb. 2
The free, open to the public 2016 Kenner Lecture will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University. The speaker is former Senator Bill Bradley who will be discussing his book, “We Can All Do Better.”
There will be a book signing following the lecture.
