City Health Bureau course Jan. 23

The City of Bethlehem Health Bureau will host an age five and up get fit and stay safe obstacle course and program at 10 a.m. on Jan. 23 at the Cops ‘n Kids reading room, Fowler Family Center, 511 E. Third St.

Local students featured in PopArt display

The L. V. high school students ArtPop Billboard Competition exhibit will be held from Jan. 16 to March 13 at the Alvin H. Butz Gallery, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way; and on Adams Outdoor Advertising company billboards.

The winner was “REACH” by Parkland High School senior Jeremy Gipson, who will have his work featured on an Adams billboard for all of 2016.

Local students and their work featured in the exhibit are Technology Desert (digital) by Aodhan Gyory, Lehigh Valley Charter Arts High School; and Past Steel, Present Stacks (acrylic) by Victoria Evert, Bethlehem Catholic High School, Bethlehem.

Eagle Scout blood drive

BASD student and Boy Scout Christopher Fereno is coordinating a blood drive through March 19 as his Eagle Scout project. On March 19, blood may be donated at First Baptist Church, 3235 Linden St.

Prior to or on March 19, blood donations (mention donor ID#7745 for credit to this drive) may be given at either Miller Keystone locations, 1465 Valley Center Parkway or 2925 William Penn Highway, Easton.

Elementary: Future chef competition begins

Sodexo and the BASD are holding an elementary culinary competition. BASD students in grades one through five submitted healthy breakfast recipes, which will be judged on ease of kid-friendly preparation and other aspects. The finalists will appear at the cook off at 4:45 p.m. March 16 at the Northeast MS.

Freedom HS: Band fundraiser Jan. 22

A basket and handbag bingo fundraiser for the Freedom HS band and orchestra will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 ( snow date is Jan. 29) in the cafeteria, 3149 Chester Ave. There will be raffles and refreshments. For information, email FHSBingo@gmail.com.

Charter Schools

LVCHSA: Taming of the Shrew set for Jan. 22-24

The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts presents William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 and 23 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Charter Arts Theatre, 321 E. Third St.

The director is Diane Wagner.

Parochial Schools

St. Anne Catholic Schools Week Celebration

Saint Anne School, will host an opening Mass at 10:30 a.m., followed by open house from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm. on January 31 at the school, 375 Hickory St., to begin the Catholic Schools Week celebrations.

There will be school guided tours, visits to classrooms, and the opportunity to meet with faculty, parents and current students.

There will be an opportunity to register for preschool and kindegarten through 8th grade. Light refreshments will be served and there will be a door prize raffle will take place.

Other events include Feb. 1: jump rope for heart, family evening ice skating, Feb. 2: student super hero dress down, Marvel/DC cartoonist and author Bob McLeod and community superhero assembly from 9:45 to 11 a.m., students will honor local community and life superheroes, 1:30 p.m.; Feb. 3: National Geography Bee finals for grades 4-8, 1:30 p.m., P.J. Day, collection of baby items for Mary’s Shelter; and Feb. 4: student Wild West day with games, dress down and square dancing.

Notre Dame: FBLA students take honors

First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union recently sponsored a “Mad City Money” workshop during the Region 28 Future Business Leaders of America’s annual Regional Leadership Conference at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Several Notre Dame HS students participated in events such as job interview, public speaking i and ii, business ethics, emerging business issues, impromptu speaking, client service, graphic design, publication design, and future business leader presentations.

Notre Dame had several winners in the regional testing awards They will compete in the state contest April 11 through 13 in Hershey.

The students are: first place: Shyam Mehta, future business leader; Gabriella Flank, client service; and Greg Bianchi, public speaking; second place: Meghan Grys, -business communication and Richard Mueller, FBLA principals and procedures; third place: Sara Medei, introduction to parlimentary procedures; fourth place:

Julia Pinter business law, John Koons, FBLA principles and procedures; Katie Dicker, introduction to business procedures; Arthur Jacob, introduction to information technology and Fayth Alston, introduction to parliamentary procedure; fifth place: Tiana Boutros, businesss communication; Sarah Skievaski, insurance and risk management; Elizabeth Cartier, introduction to parliamentary procedure and Daniel Krochta, networking concepts.

Other winners were Nadia Holmgaard, Jane Karam, Chris Bianchi, Emily Stubits,
