Swimmers split vs. NHS

The Whitehall swim teams split a meet last week with Nazareth.

The girls were 115-55 winners while the boys fell to the Eagles 97-73.

Steph Setar and Mairead Doyle were both doubles winners for the girls, who are 6-1 on the season. Setar took the 200 IM in 2:20.21 as well as the 100 back in 1:02.97. Setar is leading the team in points, according to head coach Pete Rile, but the team is also helped with depth.

“Much depth and frontline swimmers is a great help to our current record and allowing swimmers to show skill in a variety of events,” Rile said. “The freshman class is contributing greatly to the win percentage.”

Doyle captured the 50 free in 26.21 and then the 100 free in 58.52.

Grace Sullivan, Alexus Merkert and Michaela Hendricks were other winners for the Zephs. Sullivan took the 200 free in 2:12.53, Merkert won the 100 fly in 1:06.42 and Hendricks captured the 500 free in 6:03.34.

Whitehall won all three relay events as well. In the 200 medley relay, Setar, Doyle, Merkert and Hope Millets were the winning team with a time of 2:00.68.

Hendricks, Martha Giletto, Millets and Sullivan won the 200 free in 1:51.01 while Merkert, Sullivan, Doyle and Setar touched first in the 400 free with a time of 4:03.87.

On the boys side, Dan Jablonski was a double winner despite the loss as the team is now 3-4. Jablonski took the 500 free in 5:03.93 and the 100 breast in 1:09.16. Felix Figueroa was the only other individual winner for the Zephs as he took the 100 breast event in 1:09.16.

Whitehall did win two of the three relay events. In the 200 medley, Jack Yadush, Jordan Rivera, Figueroa and Jablonski made up the winning team with a time of 1:50.43. The 200 free relay team won with a time of 1:40.89 and was made up of Rivera, Yadush, Figueroa and Jablonski.

Junior Jordan Rivera set a school record in the 100 breaststroke against Pocono Mountain East last week.

“Even with only eight swimmers, the boys are extremely competitive,” Rile said.
