Northampton: Library seeks teen lounge volunteers

The Northampton Area Public Library is currently looking for adult volunteers to monitor the teen lounge, which runs every Monday through Thursday after school, 2:30-5 p.m. Contact the library at 610-262-7537 if you are interested in volunteering.

Northampton Banquet and Events Center hosts bingo every Monday night. Doors open 5:30 p.m., and the games begin 7 p.m.

The kitchen is open. Proceeds benefit the center.

Registration for the children’s winter programs at Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave., is underway. Programs will be held Feb. 2-March 24 and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Register for the following:

• Wonderful Ones for ages 10 months to 2, 10-10:45 a.m. Thursdays

• Toddler Storytime for 2-year-olds, 11-11:20 a.m. Tuesdays or 10-10:20 a.m. Wednesdays

• Creative Preschoolers Storytime for ages 3 and up, 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesdays or 10:30-11:15 a.m. Wednesdays

• Family Toddler/Preschool Storytime, 6:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays

• Storycraft for children in kindergarten through second grade, 6-7 p.m. Thursdays

• Kids Create for children in third through fifth grades, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays

An adult coloring group will meet the second Wednesday of each month beginning 6 p.m. Jan. 13. Bring your own supplies or use the library’s. No registration is required.

Also at the library, 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 19, a talk titled The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease will be given by Alzheimer’s Association. To register for this free event, call the library at 610-262-7537.

Teen Anime and Manga Club will be meeting 4 p.m. Jan. 27 at the library.

Additionally, Friends of Northampton Area Public Library will be running a bus trip to the 2016 Philadelphia Flower Show March 11. This year’s theme is national parks.

There is a discount if you purchase a ticket by Jan. 23. The price includes the admission ticket, transportation and driver’s tip. Lunch is on your own.

The library will welcome the 501st Legion Garrison Carida 1 p.m. Jan. 30. Come meet Darth Vader and other characters from the Star Wars universe as they promote literacy and reading during their visit at the library.

The library will also host Harry Potter Book Night 6 p.m. Feb. 4. This event is an evening of activities and games based on the Harry Potter series for the entire family. Those who plan to attend are encouraged to dress up as a favorite Harry Potter character. Registration now.
