North Whitehall Township prepares for new year

At the recent reorganization meeting of the North Whitehall supervisors, Ronald J. Heintzelman was appointed as chairman of the board with Supervisor Steve Pany selected as vice chairman.

Township Secretary/Treasurer Brenda Norder was re-appointed to the board for the new year as was Jeff Bartlett, who was re-appointed as township manager.

Attorney Lisa Young was re-appointed as solicitor to the board of supervisors and to the township planning commission.

Keystone Consulting Engineers was appointed to do the sewerage and traffic engineering for 2016 and Benchmark Engineering Services was selected to do general planning and special projects.

Other appointments made were as follows: Richard Benjamin for a three-year term on the zoning hearing board; Scott Bieber as sewage enforcement officer; Denise Kumernitsky Stanek to fill the unexpired term of the tax collector and William George and Richard Celmer to the township planning commission for four-year terms.

Holly Krause and Frank Kedl were appointed to the township’s recreation board for five-year terms.

North Whitehall’s representatives to the Ironton Rail-Trail Oversight Committee will be Bruce Stettler and Ray Deutsch for one-year terms.

Paul Mantz and Richard Townsend were selected as alternates for the year for this committee.

Charles Horwith was appointed to the vacancy board for 2016.

Donald Jacobs will be township fire marshal and assistant state police fire marshal while Jim Steward will be the designated assistant to these posts.

Nelson Fogle will be the emergency management director and Donald Jacobs will be the deputy director.

Supervisors will meet on the first Monday of each month except for July and September when the meeting will be on the second Monday.

The zoning hearing board will meet on the third Wednesday of each month and the planning commission and recreation board will meet on the fourth Tuesday and third Monday, respectively. All meetings start at 7:30 p.m.

Trick or Treat Night was set for 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 28. There is no rain date.

Two resolutions were on the agenda for adoption this night.

The first revised the township’s fee schedule pertaining to services, equipment and materials furnished by the township.

The second designated the accounting firm of Kirk, Summa and Co. to audit the township’s books for 2015.

Supervisors will have a joint meeting with the planning commission at that board’s regularly scheduled meeting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23.
