An agreement between Whitehall Township administration and board of commissioners for the proposed capital improvements has been reached. The township has released its five-year capital improvement program, 2016-2020, that includes more than $8 million in projected expenditures.
Ambitious road improvements, purchase of police vehicles and three fire trucks - which includes $1 million for replacing the present aerial fire truck for the Fullerton station - and upgrades to public works equipment and technology are among some of the specifics of the capital improvement program.
Expenditures listed in the plan for 2016 amount to $2,113,142; for 2017, $1,882,000; for 2018, $1,531,000; for 2019, $1,515,500; and for 2020, $2,350,000.
Funding to pay for the various capital improvements will be derived from general fund transfers, $1.5 million annually, except for 2016, which is pegged at $1,210,000.
Funds from the state liquid fuels receipts will contribute $350,000 each of the five years.
For 2016, $543,130 will go toward the purchase of a new fire truck for the West Catasauqua station. Two Ford police patrol vehicles will total $80,000. WatchGuard in-camera systems at $87,900 for the police department and technology upgrades are also included for this year. $150,000 will be used for a public works dump truck, a pickup truck, two cars and the first of five years for a milling machine, along with $31,000 to replace a traffic control division chief truck in 2016.
In 2017, projections are $550,000 for a new fire truck for the Egypt station.
In 2020, $1 million is proposed for an aerial ladder truck replacement for the Fullerton station.
