Stringing it up: “The Museum Of Music” is being presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 15., Charles Brown IceHouse, 56 River St., Sand Island, Bethlehem. In the show, Carmen (Mallory DeForest) and Sylvie (Kayla Prestel), above, are night custodians at a colorful, imaginary museum. They take the audience on a tour to discover the multi-cultural nature of classical music. The “Museum Of Music” is a collaborative play created by Mock Turtle Marionette Theater and the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra for the “Saturday’s Child Family Series.” There’s classical music and a cast of eight large puppets. As the puppets interact and relate their stories, the audience hears excerpts of music by American composers Louis Gottschalk, Duke Ellington and Aram Khachaturian, Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzola, classical music greats J. S. Bach and Johannes Brahms and others. A puppet-making workshop, with cookes and milk, follows the performance. Tickets: 610 434-7811.

Jazzing it up: “Expansions: The Dave Liebman Group” returns for the “Jazz Upstairs” series, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. Saxophonist and flautist Liebman, above, a National Endowment For The Arts “Jazz Master,” has put together a group that incorporates jazz musicians who have been schooled in conservatory and university settings. “Lieb,” as he is called, continues the tradition of master-apprentice that he experienced in the 1970’s with drummer Elvin Jones and Miles Davis. Expansions features pianist Bobby Avey, reedman Matt Vashlishan, drummer Alex Ritz and Lieb’s longtime collaboration with bassist Tony Marino. The repertoire traverses elements of free jazz and re-arrangements of standards infused with complex time signatures and harmonies. Reading it up: Allentown Public Theatre’s “Theatre Cafe” presents a reading of “The Man Who Invented Himself” by Emmaus playwright and filmmaker Stephanie E. Gardner, above, 7 p.m. Jan. 19, Hava Java, 526 N. 19th St., Allentown. In the biographical play, Andre Friedmann is a Hungarian-born e´migre´ and struggling photographer. He meets a revolutionary, Gerda Taro. They create a persona, Robert Capa, an American photographer. Traveling through Spain during the Spanish Civil War for Life magazine, they capture moments of war and peace. Playing the man, Andre Friedmann, is Chris Egging. Robert Capa is portrayed by Bill George, co-founder of Touchstone Theatre. Kate Egging takes the role of the photojournalist, Gerda Taro. John Corl, Kelly Herbert James, Mike Piz, Marcie Schlener and Steven Schmid round out the cast. Rick Bachl narrates. Directing the ensemble is Anna Russell, APT Artistic Director.
