Stephen M. Glovas
Stephen M. Glovas, 89, of Bethlehem, died Jan. 4, 2016. Born in Coatesville, he was a son of the late Peter and Sofia (Makusczewska) Glovas. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Walko) Glovas.
He graduated from Hellertown High School and Spring Garden Institute, Philadelphia.
He was in the U.S. Army, Company K, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Division, in France and Germany during World War II. His battalion broke through the Siegfried Line on the 7th Army front. He was in the Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. Wounded in Germany, he received two unit Presidential Citations for the Battle of Colmar, France; was awarded the Purple Heart; and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He worked at several garages in Bethlehem. He retired from the Bethlehem Steel in January of 1989.
He was a life member of the American Legion of Freemansburg, the Disabled Veterans of the Lehigh Valley, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the Lehigh Valley, Chapter 190, of which he was a commander and chaplain.
He is survived by a son, Gregory S. and his wife Nadine; a grandson, Christopher; a great- granddaughter, Delilah of Danielsville; a daughter, Geralyn M. Kasman Miller and her husband Mark; a grandson, Kyle of Bethlehem; and a brother, Andrew Glovas, and a sister, Martha Rancke, both of Williams Township.
He was predeceased by a brother, Rudolph Glovas; and a sister, Sister Mary Nathanael Glovas.
