Annika Sundlof

Grade: 12

Family members: Johan and Deborah Sundlof (parents), Erik Sundlof (brother)

Favorite subject(s): I enjoy biology because of its implications for everyday life and its ever-changing nature; there is and always will be more to learn.

Activities: I participate in varsity soccer, scholastic scrimmage, STEM club, and National Honor Society.

Next steps (after high school): I plan to attend a four-year university and major in genetics.

Career goals: I would like to pursue a medical degree and become a geneticist.

Heroes: I admire my parents because of their encouragement and my soccer coach because of her dedication to our team and her genuine love for everyone around her.

Hobbies: Beyond playing soccer and participating in other clubs, I enjoy skiing with family and reading.

Volunteer/community work: I volunteered at the University of Pennsylvania during the summer before my junior year, and this summer and early fall I am assisting in a research study being done there. I also participate in community service projects with the National Honor Society and help to organize Saucon’s annual Red Out basketball game to promote awareness of heart disease and raise funds for the American Heart Association.

Likes: I enjoy math and science classes as well as spending time with friends and teammates.

Dislikes: I dislike standardized testing.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment thus far has been with my soccer team because no individual victory can compare to achieving something with a team that is like family to me. My freshman year, we won both the league and district finals, neither of which had been done in school history for our team. We have gone on to be league finalists again for the past two years as well.

Advice for peers: My advice to peers would be to try to balance everything and not to forget to enjoy the little things in high school. I’m not saying that it should be the best part of our lives - I hope that it isn’t, at least - but we have the choice of how to view any situation and where to dedicate our hard work.
