WTPL: Friends group to meet Jan. 8

The Friends of Whitehall Township Public Library group meets 10 a.m. on the second Friday of each month in the community room. The next meeting will be Jan. 8.

The Friends group consists of library supporters who take care of the ongoing book sales to help raise money for library programs and items needed by the library.

In 2015, members helped with the purchase of the new microfilm machine and supplies for the summer reading program and paid for the paint for the children’s area.

Please join the Friends of the Library group and attend these meetings to help your library be the best.

Registration for our adult winter reading program begins Jan. 11. The program will run Jan. 18-March 12 with the wrap-up party 1-2 p.m. March 15.

Our theme will be “Read ’N’ Feed!” We’ll have a list of reading suggestions ready for you to pick up when you register. Anyone 18 years or older may sign up.

This year, any participant who reads and logs in one or more books may submit two recipes per book logged. Each recipe must be typed or printed clearly because we will be using your recipes to create a Whitehall Township Public Library cookbook in the spring.

Any recipe, from cookies to barbecued ribs to salads to desserts, will be accepted. Look for information at the front desk and join the fun!

The library recently digitized the Whitehall High School yearbooks from 1922 to 2014. We now are able to provide copies on DVDs that can be displayed on a computer. These will make excellent gifts for alumni of Whitehall High School.

Complete an order form (available at the front desk or on our website) and bring your payment to receive your copy. We will call you when your copy is ready.

Cost of the yearbook is $2 cheaper if picked up at the library. Only cash or check is accepted. Please make checks payable to Whitehall Township Public Library.

The library is participating in The Morning Call’s Be An Angel program this year. Please include your name and address with your gift and send to the attention of (or give to) staff member Chris. The program ends Jan. 30. Thank you to those who have helped us already.

Our three wishes are:

• gift cards to local businesses

• arts and crafts supplies for children’s programs

• hand sanitizer, Swifter dusters and refills, and Clorox wipes

Do you have a hobby or a display that you would like to share with library patrons? We now have three glass display cases, and every month we allow folks to take one case and place a themed display in it.

We have had toys, Boy Scout items, jewelry, painted dishes, etc., and we are always looking for interesting and fun exhibits.

The cases are kept locked, and we ask that you leave the items in your case for one month.

If you have an idea for a display, please call Patty or Dianna at the library, and let’s discuss it.

By the way, the cases are already scheduled with displays through April 2016.
