Upper Milford Township supervisors Dec. 30, 2015 unanimously adopted a $2.735 million budget for 2016, holding the tax rate at 0.17 mills. The average property owner in the township pays $38 in township taxes.
Adoption of the budget is normally one of just a few routine actions taken at the year-end meeting, but a lengthy discussion about the future of the Kohler property stretched the usually brief meeting to two and one-half hours.
However, supervisors took several other actions in addition to the discussion.
Supervisors appointed Jessamy Killingsworth to fill a vacancy on the open space committee. Her term will expire Jan. 8, 2018.
Supervisors also accepted with regret the resignation of Barry Williams from the recreation commission. Williams said it would be a conflict of interest for him to continue serving on an appointed committee now that he is an elected auditor.
Supervisor Robert Sentner called his resignation a “huge loss” and the other supervisors agreed. They will encourage him to stay involved with the commission even though he is no longer a member.
The board also issued a proclamation honoring Boy Scout Justin Dressel of Troop 352 for earning his Eagle award. Dressel’s project was constructing an outdoor seating area at Emmaus High School.
Assistant Township Manager Tim Haas reported the fire company steering committee visited the Macungie Ambulance Corps last month.
The next meeting of the steering company will be Jan. 11.
