Josephine M. Benko

Josephine M. Benko, 88, of Bethlehem, died Jan. 1, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Campus. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Helen (Kasenich) Barback. She was the wife of the late Rudolph E. Benko.

She was a sewing machine operator at Chickadee Manufacturing Company and worked for Champion Spark Plug for two years. She taught cooking at the Bethlehem Girls Club.

She was a former member of St. John’s Capistrano, Sacred Heart and Notre Dame Catholic churches. She was a member of the Catholic Slovak Sokols.

She is survived by two sons, Rudy E. Jr. and his wife Judith of Bethlehem and Stephen G. and his wife Mary Beth of Westminster, Md.; two daughters, Carol Ann Benko-Meyer of Portage, Ind. and Rebecca and her husband Chris Jones of Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Peter and Stephen Barback; five sisters, Anna Krajci, Helen Posavek, Rose Svajko, Mary Zebrowski and Theresa Sandor; and a son-in-law, Charles Meyer.
