WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

For those of you who haven’t heard, Salisbury Township School District is proposing reconfiguring the elementary schools.

The proposal includes moving the fifth grade to Salisbury Middle School and all students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade will attend Harry S Truman Elementary School, while they close Western Salisbury Elementary. There will be a public hearing to discuss this topic 7 p.m. March 4 at SMS. This event is open to the public and anyone who would like to, may speak. If you would like to speak at this event, you are asked to sign in upon arrival. I cannot stress how this will impact our students. Please come and show your support for our community schools.

Salisbury Theatre has announced their spring musical, “Into the Woods.” The story uses characters from “Cinderella,” “Jack in the Beanstalk,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and other fairy tales to tell the story of a baker and his wife on their journey to start a family. Performances will be 7 p.m. March 12, 13, 14 and 3 p.m. March 15.

Are you ready to support a great cause? From 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Feb. 29, the South Mall on Lehigh Street in Allentown is hosting “Walk For a Warrior.” This event will benefit Tails of Valor, Paws of Honor an organization that trains dogs to help veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, brain injuries or physical disabilities. For a small donation, you can walk the South Mall with one of these furry, adorable warriors. And yes, I’m talking about the dogs. If that isn’t enough, with your donation, you will receive five raffle tickets for a tricky tray auction, a coupon for a free pretzel from Totally Twisted Pretzel at the South Mall and free coffee from the South Mall Mercantile.

Western Salisbury Elementary PTA will hold its seventh annual purse bingo fundraiser. Doors open noon and bingo starts 1 p.m. March 8. This event is held in the SMS cafeteria. Prizes include purses by Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Vera Bradley and more. There will be a basket raffle, 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Lunch, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
