David Ordway wins Mr. Parkland 2016 title

Thirteen Parkland High School seniors competed this past weekend for the title of Mr. Parkland 2016.

The competition opened with the seniors dressed in blue jeans, white T-shirts and sneakers and sporting brown and pink brimmed hats performing a dance number choreographed by Amanda Slotter, a social studies teacher at the high school, before being introduced to the audience.

The seniors were Jared Silverstein, Brian Grady, Max Weinberg, Alexander Baker, Yousef Elzalabany, David Ordway, Daniel Zahn, Christopher Bungert, EJ Brandt, Robert Rosenfeld, Jake Walbert, Hawke Lansang and Stevens Garcon.

Judges for the competition were Jaciel Cordoba, WFMZ 69 News anchor, Susan Bella Linski of Susan Bella Jewelry, Joe Sibilia, radio show host and former Mr. Parkland finalist, Denise Sam-Cali with J&J Luxury Transportation and Suzanne Giovino of Jon’s Bridal by Suzanne.

After the students performed another number dressed in swim suits, it was time for the talent portion of the competition.

This included the contestants performing dance numbers, singing, skits and segments of news broadcasts, movies, shows, ventriloquism, and plays on the 2016 presidential race.

Silverstein with assistance from Alexandria Burrelli performed a broadcast segment of “The Parkland News.”

Grady sang “Blackbird” by the Beatles while playing guitar.

Weinberg and his dummy Stanley entertained with a ventriloquist comedy routine.

Elzalbany dressed as Donald Trump and also Bernie Sanders played with the 2016 presidential race.

Zahn with assistance from Amanda Harris, Lauren Horan, Sarah Frantz and Paige Bernecker and dressed as Lord Farquaad performed a scene from the movie “Shrek.”

Walbert dressed as Alex Trebek performed his own segment version of the game show Jeopardy.

Rosenfeld recited two poems during the talent competition.

Bungert showed a movie he directed.

Baker and Brandt both performed a song and dance number.

A crowd favorite during the evening was the singing of Hawke Lansang.

Another crowd favorite was Stevens Garcon with his dance moves.

Ordway won the votes of the judges with his lip-synced tribute to Miley Cyrus with the assistance of Evan Hackenberry, Cole Zenie, Sam Buckland and Conley Hawk-Stetler before being crowned as Mr. Parkland 2016.

Prior to Ordway winning the title, the seniors, dressed in tuxedos, were escorted onstage by fellow classmates dressed in formal wear for the evening.

Garcon won second place and Daniel Zahn won third place in the competition.

Ordway, is the son of Carolyn and Gene Ordway.

He has a brother brother Garrett.
