William P. Marsteller
William “Bill” “Buddy” P. Marsteller, 85 of South Whitehall, died Dec. 9, 2015, in Lehigh Valley Hospital.
He and his wife Claire M. (Solt) Marsteller were married 66 years.
Born in Cetronia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Annie (Oswald) Marsteller.
A member of Cedar Lutheran Church, Cetronia, he sang with the choir.
He was a former president and life member of Cetronia Fire Company.
He ran bus trips for 40 years to benefit the fire company and church.
He was a member of Paul Wieand Pennsylvania Folklore Group and the Grundsow Lodge.
Employed in the furniture business managing various companies in the Lehigh Valley, he retired from Bastian Carpet One.
He enjoyed gardening, making puzzles and spending time with his family.
The subject of a story in the Parkland Press on Sept. 6, 2012, he recalled the May 24, 1937, fatal fire in Cetronia that displaced his family, killed Verna Beitler, burned her husband Clarence and killed their 9-month-old daughter, Janice Louise.
Marsteller’s family and the Beitlers lived in a duplex across the street from the old Cetronia Fire Company on Dorney Park Road, South Whitehall Township.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Gary and wife, Patricia, of Locust Grove Ga., Michael and wife, Jeanne, and Richard and wife, Bette, all of Allentown; daughter-in-law Jan of Allentown; grandchildren Jennifer, Jason, Nicole, Amanda, Katie, Crystal, Nicholas and Ian; great-grandchildren Meghan, Paul, Justin and Eric.
He was predeceased by a son Jeffrey, brother Thomas and sisters Minnie Dreher, Ruth Sechler and Dorothy Stewart.
