Coplay fills board, commission vacancies
At Coplay Borough’s regular meeting Dec. 8, council unanimously approved appointments of individuals to various boards and commissions.
Council reappointed Joan Witko and the Rev. Gary Walbert to the Coplay Public Library board.
Councilman Charles Sodl was reappointed to Coplay Borough Planning Commission.
Council appointed James Hahn to Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority.
John Schwartz was appointed to Coplay Board of Appeals.
Kurt Shumberger accepted his assignment as assistant code enforcement officer.
Council hired Layton Purcell as a part-time police officer.
In addition to the personnel appointments, council approved a number of accounting measures designed to move funds among various accounts to pay for projects both underway and proposed for completion by the end of the year and into 2016.
One of the budget moves waived permit fees for residents along Front Street. Front Street is scheduled for revamping sewer lines and repaving in 2016.
Council funded the Recreation Shade Tree budget with $2,275 to help with tree removal and sidewalk repairs caused by tree roots.
Council will continue to work with The Sanctuary at Haafsville for animal control of stray dogs throughout 2016.
In other news, council is looking at alternative engineering services. Engineering services are now handled by Keystone Consulting Services.
Councilman Stephen Burker announced that the gazebo ordered for the community plaza would arrive in the borough Dec. 11.
Council approved a special meeting for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 to approve the 2016 budget. The $3.3 million budget has no scheduled rate increase.
Council set its reorganization meeting for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4.
Council’s next regular meeting is 7 p.m. Jan. 12.
