EHS grads excel at next level
Several former Emmaus High School athletes are contributing to teams at the college level.
As a junior on the DeSales University volleyball team, Lisa Wallitsch tallied 1,232 assists, 302 digs, 228 total attacks, 71 service aces and 32 blocks. For her efforts in leading the Bulldogs (22-12 overall, 6-1 Mac Freedom Conference) to the conference tournament championship game, Wallitsch was named to the AVCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. She is now up to fourth all-time in school history with 3,001 assists.
DeSales junior Esther Younger started in all 20 games for the Bulldogs’ on defense this past fall, recording a total of 1,789 minutes of field action. The defense as a whole allowed just 19 goals this season and pitched nine shutouts, and the Bulldogs won the Mac Freedom Conference championship with a 2-1 win over Wilkes. Younger was named to the Mac Fall Sportsmanship Team and an All-Conference First-Team selection.
In his final season on the Muhlenberg football team, senior offensive lineman and captain Bryan Auvil helped lead one of the top offenses in the Centennial Conference. The Mules averaged just under 28 points per game, ran for 167.4 yards per contest, and threw for nearly 230 more yards per contest. He was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in the fall and the Division III Academic All-America First Team, while also earning a spot on the conference’s list of first team all-stars.
Catherine Garrity, a sophomore at Bloomsburg, finished the season 1-1 on the singles circuit. Paired with Cassandra Wentz during doubles action, the duo won two of their three matches on the season.
Liberty University freshman Lindsey Bray placed 138th at this year’s NCAA Division I Southeast Regional. She was the fourth member of the Lady Flames to cross the finish line.
Senior tight end and captain Josh MacLeod caught eight passes for 33 yards and one touchdown this past season for Albright College, who won the Middle Atlantic Conference title over Lebanon Valley. He was named a conference honorable mention selection at fullback as well.
Lehigh University field hockey freshman Teresa Carotenuto started in 10 of the Mountain Hawks’ 18 games, recording 11 goals (first on team) on the season. Carotenuto scored both against Holy Cross in the Patriot League title game. Junior midfielder Kassidy Green started all but one game and tallied one goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Zoey Pacheco started in 11 games and played in a total of 18 for the Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks. Pacheco was a co-captain on the team and was awarded with the Coaches Award at the end of the season. Senior forward Caitlin Bryan and junior midfielder Aislinn Bryan made plenty of contributions throughout the season, too.
Charlie Jerry, a sophomore defender/midfielder at DeSales, started in all 18 games for the Bulldogs. He scored his lone goal of the season against Delaware Valley on October 20.
Saint Francis University freshman Shannon McGinnis made an immediate impact for the women’s soccer team. In starting 15 of the Red Flash’s 19 games in the fall, McGinnis, listed as a defender, scored four goals and posted five shots on goal. She scored in each of the Red Flash’s final two games.
Senior Allie Mikelson, sophomore Krissy Mikelson and freshman Tara Tracchio all made an impact on the University of Delaware field hockey team this season. Allie Mikelson started in all 22 games and recorded one goal along with eight assists (tied for team lead). Her sister, Krissy, started in seven games and scored a goal. And Tracchio made an appearance for the Blue Hens early in the season.
In playing 26 of the Rams’ 28 matches in 2015, sophomore middle hitter Corrine Justus recorded the third-highest amount of kills for the Philadelphia University (21-7 overall, 13-3 in Central Atlantic Athletic Conference) volleyball team with 201. She also had the second-most blocks on the team with 69.
Sophomore defender John Philbin played in 16 games (15 starts) for the Seton Hall University men’s soccer team, playing 1,382 minutes on the pitch. He made the Big East All-Rookie Team a year ago.
Lehigh University sophomore Hanna Brosky competed in the 800 meter run and 4x400 meter relay team at the Patriot League Championships in the outdoor season. She ran a 2:20.07 in the 800 meter run.
Junior midfielder Joanna Hawkins was one of a handful of Georgetown players that played in all 19 games on the field hockey team. The Hoyas finished 8-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference in the fall.
Anna Kennedy, a sophomore midfielder on Bryant University’s field hockey squad, started in 17 of the team’s 19 games this season. She tallied two assists and recorded 23 shots for the Bulldogs’ 3-16 season.
Shauna Poling, a junior defender on Moravian College’s field hockey team, recorded one goal, one assist and five defensive saves in the fall.
Slippery Rock sophomore defender Kayla Mack started in all 18 games this past season. The Rock allowed a total of 50 goals throughout the season.
Grant Schumaker had an impressive showing in his second fall season on the Robert Morris University golf team. In four rounds, he posted an average of 77.1, the fourth-best on the team this season.
Bloomsburg University junior Amber Csrenko finished a successful 2015 season with a time of 24:11 in the PSAC Cross Country Championships in late October.
Marist College freshman Mackenzie O’Brien played in 30 sets as a freshman. She recorded 53 kills in 18 matches (1.77 kills-per-set), seven service aces, and a .174 hitting percentage.
Devyn Hannis, a sophomore midfielder on the Old Dominion University women’s soccer team, saw action in 18 games this season. She recorded one assist.
Andy Davidson, a freshman linebacker at Army West Point, played in all 12 games this season for the Knights.
