The Swain School Board of Trustees has named Dr. Shannan Boyle Schuster as the new head of school, beginning July 1, 2016, when Interim Head of School David Hursty completes his year-long term.

Schuster, an Allentown native, brings to Swain more than 20 years experience as a teacher and administrator.

She is currently the assistant head of school at Friends’ Central School, an independent day school in Wynnewood.

Prior to her time at Friends’ Central, Schuster served as the dean of faculty for eight years at Flint Hill School, Oakton, Va.

While at Friends’ Central, she helped build a STEAM and Maker program, directed, planned and rolled out a 1:1 iPad program and was instrumental in developing and providing support and professional development for faculty.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science degree in math, Schuster earned her Master’s degree in educational administration from Columbia University and her doctorate in school administration from the University of Virginia.

After graduation from Vanderbilt, Schuster taught at several Catholic and public schools as a homeroom, reading and math teacher including two schools in the Lehigh Valley.
