Jesus M. Ortiz, 81, of Bethlehem, died Dec. 4, 2015, at the Hospice House of St. Luke’s. Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Felix Ortiz and Margarita Figueroa.
He was the husband of Carmen M. (Torres) Ortiz for 55 years.
He was in the Korean War for three years. He was a welder for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation until he retired after 30 years of service.
He was a member of Holy Infancy Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
He was a member of the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society of which he was a resident, steward and member of the executive board for several years. He was awarded the Spanish Council’s 2008 Visionary Award.
He is survived by a son, Jesus Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Lisa Sarkozy of Bethlehem, and Fay Ortiz of Williamsport; two brothers, Teodosio Nieves and Lucas Ortiz; two sisters, Carmen Solivan and Olga Rodriguez; and three grandchildren, Julius Sarkozy, Sean Ortiz Golden and Olivia Sarkozy.
He was predeceased by a sister, Norma Nieves.
