Rachel Finn, Meryem Okumus, and Sergio Alvares will be Liberty High School’s returning divers for the 2015-2016 season, and Alicia Valladares, Jeff DePalma, Safa Turkdomez, and Kellen Rogers will round out the Hurricanes’ diving roster.
Finn was a district contender last year, and Liberty coach Jeff Zettlemoyer has high hopes for the Hurricane senior.
“Rachel got her 2 1/2 and also has her front double pike. Those are new dives for her,” Zettlemoyer said.
Okumus was injured last year, but she has six dives prepared for regular meets, and Zettlemoyer is working with her on getting to 11.
“Everyone else is beginning to intermediate,” said Zettlemoyer.
Alvares is now a sophomore, and, along with Rogers, who is a junior, has all six of his dives.
“I expect we will do pretty good in diving [this season], enough to go into meets,” Zettlemoyer said.
For the first three meets, however, Liberty’s divers will not compete because those meets will be swum at Pocono schools that have no diving.
Rachel Finn is back for Liberty divers.
