Rockapella, the contemporary a cappella sensation, sings holiday and contemporary classics at 7 p.m. Dec. 10, State Theatre Center for Arts, Easton.
The internationally-acclaimed, contemporary a cappella group will feature holiday classics and favorites that are, according to one of its singers, high tenor, Scott Leonard, “often imitated, never duplicated.”
The group started its journey in the early 1990s when it achieved national television fame on PBS’s “Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego?” Rockapella toured the globe with its powerful sound.
“Rockapella was the first contemporary a capella group to go mainstream,” says Leonard in a phone interview. “It was not accepted by record companies or radio stations.
“So, we had to find alternative routes to exposure and TV was an alternate route for us. We performed on the Folgers coffee commercial and then record companies finally started noticing us, which led to a record deal. We have made 20 records and now a cappella is a hot thing,” Leonard says.
The Rockapella lineup includes new singers focused on the music many have come to love and enjoy. The line-up, in addition to Leonard, since 1991, high tenor, includes: Jeff Thacher, 1993, vocal percussionist; Steven Dorian, 2010, tenor; Calvin Jones, 2013, tenor, and Ryan Chappelle, 2015, bass.
“I would like fans to walk away with a light heart. Rockapella is fun. It’s songs fans have a connection to done in a new way and with the edge Rockapella adds to the show. It’s highly-crafted simple fun with a smile that’ll get you into the Christmas spirit,” says Leonard.
