50 years on: The Irish Rovers, above, are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a tour and triple CD set, “The Irish Rovers, 50 Years,” available at concerts, including its Christmas concert, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4, State Theatre For The Arts, Easton. The band first became known on United States television in the 1960s, performing on “The Tonight Show,” “The Smothers Brothers Show” and the “Mike Douglas Show.” With “The Irish Rovers Show” on TV in the 1970s, the band played and recorded popular songs, including “Black Velvet Band,” “The Unicorn,” “Whisky On A Sunday” and” Wasn’t That A Party.” These days, the group is back on the radio, has done television specials and has gone viral with “Drunken Sailor.” At the concert, fans will enjoy a mix of the group’s hits, rollicking jigs and reels, plus hilarious stories from years on the road. The group’s children’s album, “Songs For The Wee Folk,” is expected to be available at the concert. Say a cappella: Rockapella, above, has toured the globe and provided a funky, powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans, while keeping it all fresh along the way. The group performs a Christmas concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 10, State Theatre For The Arts, Easton. Rockapella is regarded as being influencial in the era of network television a cappella shows like NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” movies like “Pitch Perfect” and innumerable college vocal groups that own the corner of cool on campuses everywhere. With buckets of catchy original pop songs, and contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop and soul classics, Rockapella is the one to watch and hear.
