Dino P. Cantelmi
Dino P. Cantelmi, 79, of Fountain Hill, died Nov. 22, 2015, in Bethlehem. He was the husband of Karen C. (Warmkessel) Cantelmi for 49 years. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Placido “Patsy” and Isabella (Piermatteo) Cantelmi.
He attended Moravian Academy, Bethlehem; was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln Prep, Philadelphia; attended Muhlenberg College; and was a 1959 graduate of the former Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia. He was in the U.S. Army, stationed in Ft. Richardson, Alaska.
He worked at Joseph Levine & Sons, Philadelphia; and later served his internship at the former Steyers Funeral Home, currently the Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem, which Cantelmi’s recently purchased.
He started, in 1963, the Cantelmi Funeral Home in his parents’ home at 203 E. Packer Ave., later moving to 1311 Broadway. He worked for Cantelmi’s Hardware Store.
He was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Pompeii Church and of its Holy Name Society. He was currently a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
He was on the Fountain Hill Borough Council, coached Fountain Hill Little League baseball and was a member of the Fountain Hill American Legion, Fountain Hill Exchange Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and was honored for having served his profession for 50 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dino Pat and his wife Joanna (Villani) of Bethlehem and Christopher Scott and his wife Ailene (Pohle) of Maryland; two daughters, Lori Christine and her husband Robert Diaz of South Whitehall Township and Tara Elizabeth and her husband Anthony Markovich of Hanover Township; 13 grandchildren Bianca, Ethan, Dino Jr., and Isabella Cantelmi, Nicole Cantelmi, Marisa, Madisan, and Maya Diaz, Emily, Benjamin, and Tyler Markovich, Iris and Dario Cantelmi; a great-granddaughter Jaelyn; two sisters, Geraldine Burke of Fountain Hill, and twin sister Isabella and her husband Jerry Collen of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Lillian Cantelmi of Bethlehem; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Louis Cantelmi.
