Over 100 vendors participate in LMCC craft/vendor fair Nov. 21

The annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Lower Macungie Community Center. Over 100 crafters will participate. Lunch can be purchased 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A free shuttle from the parking lot to the door is available.

Throughout the month of November, Lower Macungie Library will feature the artwork of Michael Bossons.

In other library news, Dan Bonner will present “The Gift of Life” about the kidney transplants that saved his life 6 p.m. Dec. 8. Joining him will be a nurse and transplant coordinator who will give a behind the scenes glimpse of the transplant process.

There will be a card making class 2 p.m. Dec. 12 at the library. Seating is limited.

A wreath making class will be offered 6 p.m. Dec. 15.

Local historian Joshua Fink from the Lehigh County Historical Society will talk about the Christmas season at Hess’s Department Store 6 p.m. Dec. 16.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Dec. 2.

Creation Station for children is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 12.

Messy Mondays is a new family storytime and craft program offered this fall designed for the preschool skill level but the activities are designed for the whole family to do together. The next program is 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Dec. 7.

Rookie Readers program for grades kindergarten through second meets 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14. There will be stories, literacy games, writing activities and more.

Library League for third through fifth grades meets 6:30 p.m. Dec. 21 for a story and hands-on exploration.

The library will celebrate the eighth annual International Games Day Nov. 21. There will be bingo, a life-size Candy Land game, a supersized Scrabble board game and more. There will also be light refreshments and prizes.

There will be a Santa Storytime 10 a.m. Dec. 5. Children may write or draw a picture to send to Santa and there may be a visit from Santa.

The library will be closed Nov. 26 and 27 in observance of Thanksgiving.

The library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 and will close 2 p.m. Dec. 31.

The library book sale will take place 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21. The bag sale starts 2:30 p.m. Nov. 21. Member preview night is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19; membership forms will be available. All proceeds will benefit the library. The library will not accept books until Jan. 4, 2016, for the spring book sale.

The next Friends of the Library meeting will be 10 a.m. Jan. 16, 2016, in the library.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit the community center 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 6. Bar None Photography will be available to take pictures with Santa.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society will hold Christmas at the Log House 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 13. There will be an open house at the historic Bortz log house at the Wescosville Recreation Center on Route 222. The house will be decorated for Christmas in period fashion and lighted by candles. All are welcome.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 10th annual troop support program to collect items to send to township residents in the armed services who will not be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 to noon Saturday through Nov. 30. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center. Over the last nine years, 785 boxes of donated items were sent to 99 soldiers.

The township is also collecting old cell phones to be recycled in exchange for prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. The community center is an official drop-off point for “Cell Phones for Soldiers” until Nov. 30.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Dec. 1 and 15 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

Yard waste site hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.
