Last day for leaf pickup is Nov. 20

Tomorrow, Nov. 20, is the final day of the season for the pickup of yard waste and leaves by the borough’s public works department personnel.

“That is pretty much set in stone,” Public works Director Paul Boyle said, noting that the crew is off Nov. 27.

An aerobics class will be held 8:45 a.m. Nov. 21 in the borough hall gym/auditorium, 98 S. Fourth St.

The public is invited to participate for a nominal fee. No registration is required.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., will hold a roast beef dinner open to the public and church members 4-6 p.m. Nov. 21. Church volunteers will prepare the homecooked dinner in the recently improved kitchen.

The 49th annual ecumenical community Thanksgiving service is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 17 N. Third St.

Participating churches are St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church and Trinity UCC. The service rotates annually between the three churches.

Trinity UCC Pastor Steve Hummel will lead the worship. Monsignor John Martin of St. Peter’s will present the message. Pastor Timothy Boyer of St. John’s will assist in leading the worship.

The combined choirs of the three churches will provide special music. Coplay Garden Club is providing flowers arrangements. Coplay Public Library will be the beneficiary of a free-will offering.

Borough planning commission will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 24 in borough council chambers. The meeting’s agenda will focus on community plaza improvements on Second and Chestnut streets. Input from borough residents is welcomed.
