Egypt Park has been given a $2,750 grant from Whitehall Township Recreation Commission. The funding, however, is just over half the amount the park’s officers and board sought for projects proposed for the park, specifically monument restoration and expansion.
The park made the request for $5,000 at the recreation commission’s September meeting. The request was then shelved until October’s meeting because of a lack of a quorum of members.
However, according to Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr., “Although not enough members of the commission were present, two nonpresent members cast their votes via email to grant 50 percent of the requested amount, and those present agreed.”
In other news, Whitehall Historical Preservation Society requested a $3,600 grant to pay for additional repainting of the Grim Homestead. The commission tabled the request due to no quorum and input from members not present.
The township continues with running rentals at the Cementon and West Catasauqua parks buildings.
The indoor family and adult swim programs run by the township are underway at the Whitehall High School pool. Aqua aerobics classes are in full swing.
The recreation bureau officials met with representatives of a martial arts school to partner for a youth program. The school, which was not identified, will offer a one-month reduced rate for the township program.
Construction work continues in the township, such as the restoration of a rail car at Whitehall Parkway, Ironton Rail Trail and the Hokendauqua Park and Playground rest- room.
