Coplay library plans book sale
Coplay Public Library has a busy weekend ahead. Its popular book sale will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14.
The drawing for the basket raffle will be 4 p.m. Saturday. Refreshments will be served.

Borough residents are reminded that Boy Scouts are holding a townwide food drive Nov. 14. The canned and boxed food items should be in bags or boxes and placed on front porches by 8 a.m.
The drive benefits Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association, which for 30 years operates a food pantry at borough hall benefiting the needy.

Balliet Stadium Inc. will meet 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at Coplay American Legion Post 426, 134 S. Second St.
The agenda has officers and members continuing talks on raising funds for new stadium lights and an electric scoreboard. The former lights and scoreboard had to be discarded because of their deteriorating condition.

The borough’s planning commission will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 24. The agenda includes planning for a gazebo and benches at the civic plaza, Second and Chestnut streets.
The tract was turned over to the borough by Giant Food Store and will be converted into a park.

Coplay Community Days Committee has canceled meetings for November and December. Meetings will resume in January, and the committee will begin to plan for the August 2016 weekend festival.

The local AARP chapter had its members bring canned and boxed food to its meeting last week. Sizable amounts of the donated food was given to Coplay Recreation & Welfare’s food bank this past Friday along with nonfood items such as reading glasses.
The association provides its clients with a turkey, stuffing, vegetables and cranberry sauce for a Thanksgiving dinner. Families and individuals who utilize the pantry also will receive their monthly food allotment.
