George Z. Heimbach, M.D.

George Z. Heimbach, M.D., 84, of Bethlehem, died Oct. 23, 2015, at Kirkland Village, Bethlehem. Born in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Eugene D. and Leontine (Zimmerman) Heimbach. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Weaver) Heimbach for 53 years.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel, and a medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia. He studied at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Walter Reed Hospital.

He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps.

He had a family practice in Allentown for six years. He was a partner in Easton Radiology Associates, Easton Hospital, and was an instructor in radiological technology school until he retired.

He was a member of Central Moravian Church, where he was a sacristan and a safety officer.

He was a life member of the Men of Muhlenberg Medical Center, Liberty Bell Shrine, and the Guthsville Rod and Gun Club.

He was a member of the Northampton County and Pennsylvania Medical Societies. An Eagle Scout, he was a former assistant scoutmaster of the Liberty Bell Troop #40, Zion’s U.C.C Church, Allentown. He was a former trustee of Moravian Academy and he was a co-founder of The Gateway School of the Lehigh Valley. He was vice chairman of the South Whitehall Township Planning Commission for many years, and was a member of several grundsow lodges.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Daniel E. of Silver Spring, Md.; and David G., with a daughter-in-law Ginette Meluso and granddaughter Vivian G. Heimbach of Malvern; a sister-in-law Sallie Weaver Cole; two nieces, Catherine Weaver Mauran and Kirsten Weaver Reali; two nephews, James Thomas Weaver and Stephan Perry Cole; three great-nieces, Meghan Mcdermott and Olivia and Hannah Reali; great-nephew, Evan Mcdermott; and a great-great-niece, Charlize Mcdermott.
