Whitehall High School’s cross country team competed at the District XI Class AAA Cross Country Championships last Thursday at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.
Autumn Dragovits placed 35th with a time of 22:12.17.
“[Coach Mike Lelko] told me to try a different strategy, slower than last time. It was better to keep the pace,” Dragovits said.
The Zephyr freshman kept pace with another runner, then began picking people off.
“I started at the tree, but the wind... My coach said it threw a lot of people off,” Dragovits said. “I’m glad it was the last race.”
Teammates, Hannah Gill, placed 40th in 22:27.07, and Rachel Herr placed 52nd in 23:07.75.
In team results, the Zephyr girls placed 11th out of 15 teams. The Zephyr boys placed 13th out of 16 teams.
Andrew Hawk came in 47th with a time of 19:00.29.
“I started off pretty good. I wanted to keep a good pace on the hills and stay in front. I worked the flat parts and used the wind at my back to my advantage,” Hawk said. “I felt pretty good and had a lot left.”
Teammates, Caleb Staub placed 55th in 19:17.10, and Daniel Jablonski placed 56th in 19:21.61.
