Four seek three seats on Coplay Borough Council

In the race for Coplay Borough Council, four candidates are vying for three open seats in the Nov. 3 general election.

Janet A. Eisenhauer, Mark A. Molitoris and David Scott Royer are Democrats. Royer is the lone incumbent on the ballot.

Melvin J. Procanyn is a Republican.

The Press asked each of the candidates the following question: What will be your first order of business if elected to office?

Janet A. Eisenhauer

“First, I want to get acquainted with council’s rules and procedures. Financial responsibility is my first goal. I want to see council use resources effectively across the board for all residents.

“Council needs to reevaluate our current environment and implement measures to meet the public’s needs. I favor the curfew. Not doing anything is not an option. We need to see how this curfew works.

“Council needs to make positive changes. I did this successfully with the library board, on which I served 12 years.”

Mark A. Molitoris

“I would not change much. I think the borough is on the right path by correcting years of neglect. A turn-around takes time.

“We have civic-minded individuals on council. Two of the incumbents are voluntarily leaving the board, which doesn’t indicate voters are dissatisfied with the new direction.

“I believe my skills as a property manager can help the borough make efficient use of the borough’s talent and resources.

“I’m still open about the curfew and need to study it more, but I don’t think giving the police another tool to use is bad.”

David Scott Royer

“I will continue to work with my fellow council members and support our police department. I voted in favor of the curfew recommended by the police chief. I believe it will help protect our residents and their property.

“If elected, this will be my third consecutive term on Coplay Council. During my tenure on council, I focused on streets, property, parks and recreation.

“We have seen these areas improve after we made repairs and upgrades. I intend to stay on target.”

Melvin J. Procanyn

“My first action would be to review the budget and the financial status of the borough. My goal is to stabilize the borough’s property taxes while providing necessary services.

“Coplay residents can no longer afford continuing tax increases. I will listen to residents to get their input on how expenses affect taxes.

“My educational experience includes a degree in accounting and work experience with Ernst & Young as an auditor. I have attended council meetings to understand the process.

“I am confident I can handle the responsibility.”
