Merritt A. Bender, 93, of Palmer Township and formerly of Hellertown, Allentown and Bethlehem, died Oct. 18, 2015 at his son’s residence. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Merritt A. Bender Sr. and Kathryn B (Briar) Bender. He was the husband of the late Doris (Prosser) Bebb Bender and Gloria S. (Selvage) Bender.

He earned an associate in accounting degree at Penn State College.

He was a cost estimator for the Fuller Company for eight years. He was then a cost estimator in production department of Bethlehem Steel for 34 years until he retired in 1973.

He was a member of Mountainview Moravian Church, Hellertown.

He was a member of the former Bethlehem Steel Club, he Bethlehem MORA Club and the First U.C.C.-Hellertown dart team. He was a second tenor for eight years with the Zion Choral, Zion Hill.

He is survived by two children: Douglas K. and his wife Terri of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Kurt B. and his wife Elaine of Palmer Township; and two grandchildren: Andrew and Eric.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Bender.
