Trucks banned from certain roads
Construction of the Verizon cell tower at the Upper Macungie Township complex is expected to be completed by November.
In addition to learning this, supervisors, during their Oct. 1 meeting, adopted two ordinances relating to vehicle prohibitions.
The first prohibits truck traffic on Hickory Lane, and Mill and Hilltop roads. The second prohibits parking on Kuhns Drive from Trexler Road to Trexler Circle.
Supervisor Kathy Rader made a motion to change the SALDO concerning boundary roads, to update the formula for calculating the upgrade fee for the existing road a subdivision would front.
The waivers most commonly requested will also be addressed.
Solicitor Andrew Schantz and engineer W. Scott Stenroos would work together on these items.
The remaining board members voted to move forward on the changes.
Supervisors gave authorization to Schantz to draft an ordinance concerning mutual cooperation between Upper Macungie and South Whitehall townships where police matters are concerned.
The fire department report indicated there were 51 fire inspections in September along with 147 emergency responses.
Emergency responses were divided between Station 8 with 48; Station 25 with 42; and Station 56 with 57.
EMS responses totaled 221.
Township fire police were given permission to assist at the Oct. 24 Macungie Halloween Parade.
Recreation programs for Upper Macungie include the 5K run and the 1 mile Walk for Parks Oct. 25 at Lone Lane Park; Geocaching at the Route 100 park on Oct. 24 and the hunter/trapper safety course from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at Independent Park.

Total calls for the Upper Macungie Police Department were 705 from Sept. 1-28.
Officers issued 354 traffic citations, bringing the total for the year to 4,391.
The most reported crime was theft at nine, followed closely with eight DUIs and seven vehicle break-ins.
There were 18 inspections for the motor carrier program.
Out of these, 10 citations were issued.
Chief Edgardo Colón told the board the Good Neighbor program has been initiated.
Supervisors’ Chairman Jim Brunell noted there is a vacancy on the planning commission due to the resignation of Geoffrey Legg.

The 2016 budget is almost complete, according to Township Manager Dan Olpere, who estimates a finished product should be available for review in two more meetings.
