John M. Kern, 86, of Allentown, died Oct. 14, 2015, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.

He and his wife Eleanor “Ellie” (Taves) Kern celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in June.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Arthur and Katherine (Mell) Kern.

A crane operator for Bethlehem Steel and plumber for Lehigh County and Fruwirth Plumbing, he drove school bus for Parkland School District and Pinebrook Family Services, after retiring.

A born again Christian devoted to serving the Lord, he was a member of Central Assembly of God, Bethlehem.

He served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons David, John, Dennis and Glen Kern, Warren Bender Jr. and Jeff Bender; daughters Linda Degler, Donna Grim, Andrea Nuben, Linda Kern, Jae-Lynn Burton and Carissa Burton; brothers George and Robert; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and former wife Betty J. Kern.

Contributions may be sent to the funeral home to help with expenses.
