Jan C. Walker

The Rev. Jan C. Walker, 84, of Breinigsville, died Oct. 18, 2015, in Lehigh Valley Hospice.

He was the husband of Judy E. (Biever) Walker and the late June (Russell) Walker.

Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Dorothy (Clemmer) Walker.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Breinigsville.

A graduate of Union College and Philadelphia Seminary, he was ordained in 1956 and served as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force.

He served at St. John’s in Melrose Park, and Holy Trinity in Akron, Ohio; and was an assistant to the bishop of the Northeast Pennsylvania Synod from 1969-83.

The hardship he witnessed during the worst years of the Great Depression would have a lifelong effect on his character and ministry, and his insistence on seeing the light of Christ in every human being.

His frequent entreaty “our job is to love and not judge” were backed by an active personal faith mingling compassion, gentle humor and tireless commitment to social equality and betterment.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jan. R., of Whitehall; daughter, Cindy J. and her husband, Tagor Vojnovic, of Easton; brother Bert and his wife, Renata, of Reading; sister-in-law Norma Jeane of North Carolina; grandchildren Elizabeth, Megan, Daniel, Jane and Margaret; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Todd.
