Food bank plans annual walkathon
The Northampton Area Food Bank will hold its annual Halloween walkathon, rain or shine, Oct. 24. Be creative and come in costume. Bring the dog, kids and friends, and get sponsors. If you can’t walk, make a donation or sponsor a walker.
Registration will begin 8:30 a.m. at the food bank, 1601 Canal St. The 4-1/2-mile walk will kick off 9 a.m. along Canal Park Walkway to Community Park and back.

Assumption BVM Church, Washington Avenue and East 22nd Street, will hold a breakfast 8:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 25.
The menu includes French toast, pancakes, omelet or scrambled eggs, ham, sausage or bacon, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee or tea.
There is a cost. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Registration for fall programs at Northampton Area Public Library is underway. Sessions will be held Oct. 27 through Dec. 10 at the library, 1615 Laubach Ave.
Wonderful Ones for ages 10 months to 2 will be held 10-10:45 a.m. Thursdays.
Toddler Storytime, for 2-year-olds, will be held 11-11:20 a.m. Tuesdays or 10-10:20 a.m. Wednesdays.
Creative Preschoolers Storytime, for ages 3 and up, will be held 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesdays or 10:30-11:15 a.m. Wednesdays.
Family Toddler/Preschool Storytime will be held 6:30-7 p.m. Tuesday evenings.
The Storycraft Program for children in kindergarten, first or second grade will be offered 6-7 p.m. Thursdays.
A new program, Kids Create, for children in third through fifth grades, will be held 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Northampton library will host a program titled “Ghosts and the Paranormal,” presented by Al Rauber, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26.

The library also will hold two programs Oct. 3: a Medicare open enrollment presentation 10 a.m.-noon and an Affordable Care Act open enrollment presentation 1-3 p.m.

The women of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 19th Street and Lincoln Avenue, will hold a basket social and bake sale 1-8 p.m. Nov. 6 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 7.
The kitchen will be open Friday for a light lunch or supper.
On Saturday, breakfast will be served 8 a.m.-noon. The menu includes eggs, sausage, home fries, pancakes, toast and beverages. There is a cost.
The basket drawing will take place 1 p.m. Saturday. You do not need to be present to win.
This fundraiser supports various community organizations and church projects.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave.
A presentation about Hess’s Department Store will be given. Members are asked to bring any Hess’s memorabilia to the meeting.
