John “ Lou” Lewis Hayes

John “Lou” Lewis Hayes, 88, of Palmer Township died Oct.16, 2015. Born in Plains, he was a son of the late William J. and Bessie M. Hayes. He was the husband of Marian (Groff) Hayes for 69 years.

He was a radarman in the U.S. Navy, and was aboard the aircraft carrier, Franklin D. Roosevelt, as part of the original shake down crew during World War II.

He was a structural draftsman at Standard Structural Steel Company, Newington, Conn., for 40 years until he retired.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda D. and her husband Anthony Vallera of Palmer Township and Pamela J. of Fla.; two granddaughters, Farah L. Vallera and Stephanie L. Mathers, both of Bethlehem; a great-grandson, Dawson T. Bochini of Palmer Township; and a sister, Claire H. James of Fla.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Piatt.
