It’s homecoming week for the Emmaus football team, and the Hornets head into this Friday night’s game against Central Catholic coming off their first victory since week 1 in which several players had break-out nights offensively.
“It was great having multiple guys score for us,” said head coach Randy Cuthbert. “We know what Kyle [Boney] can do, and our offense runs through him, but Stephen Wolf had a big game and Josh Artis played well on both sides of the ball. Lubens [Myers] is only a freshman, but he sparked us with a big play on that kickoff return.”
Central Catholic has been a surprise story thus far this season. The Vikings upset Easton three weeks ago, and come into this weekend’s matchup after taking down a Nazareth team that beat the Green Hornets three weeks ago, 48-27
The Vikes’ two speedy receivers do a lot of running in a spread offense. Alvin Pacheco rushed for 251 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns against the Blue Eagles. Darnell Ferrell added 90 yards and a score, as the Vikings shredded Nazareth’s defense for 385 yards and six touchdowns.
“We know they have some play makers on offense,” said Cuthbert. “But they have some big guys up front that do a good job paving the way for them. Both of their lines are solid, and we will have to do a good job of limiting the big plays.”
Central had its fair share of big plays last Saturday afternoon.
But Emmaus did as well. And with the momentum of a league win, and homecoming week, the Green Hornets will be fired up for this one.
“There are a lot of different events that go on during the week, but our players will be focused on playing football on Friday night,” Cuthbert said. “It’s a big game for us and the kids will be ready to go.”
