The local effort to do its part to save the Saylor Cement Kilns now has a name: Saylor Kilns Preservation Society Inc. The group’s steering committee will hold two more meetings before getting down to the business of establishing funds and rallying the community for the project.
There have been two previous citizen organizations, one that enlisted Lehigh County to embark on a kilns restoration program of capping some of the brick kilns.
Lehigh County continues having a key role.
The restoration, whenever it happens, will be expensive; grants and endowments will be needed.

Benches and a gazebo are proposed ideas the commission has embraced, and the group is now working to make it happen.
